The goal of the Washington DC Grade School through High School Ballroom, Latin & Swing dance Meetup Group is to meet & train weekly in all of the social dances in Ballroom, Latin, Swing, Disco/Hustle and more. The kids have been WATCHING 'So You Think You Can Dance' and 'Dancing with the Stars'. Now it's time for each one of them to BECOME ONE OF THOSE STARS out on the dance floor!

Parents, guardians or older brothers or sisters must also enroll with the younger ones under 8 years of age to assist in their control and to practice at home so they can progress along with everyone else. This is necessary so the teacher needn't waste valuable teaching time as a baby sitter instead of being able to progress in the class and teach those who have practiced at home and are paying attention whenever the young ones lose focus. The parents or guardians who are going to be able to practice with them at home must also be trained in the dances unless they're already accomplished as Ballroom, Latin and Swing dancers, which is why everyone must enroll in advance (please do not call ahead of time and insist that your child under 8 years of age has had considerable ballet or tap or Hip Hop training, etc so that they needn't go by the rules of everyone else in the class and not have a parent or guardian partner to accompany them. Ballet, Jazz, Hip Hop and tap are individual dances. They don't need a partner to learn and to practice in those dances. Regardless of how diligent a young child might be, they are all going to have bad days and I don't intend to jeopardize the training and the time of those who are paying to proceed in their dancing each week for the sake of those who don't want to go by the established rules and guidelines to enroll with their children. I regret to have to bring this up, but I am spending far too much of my own personal time explaining the necessity of this to parents who feel that their children are better than the rest [let's face it; all of our children are better than the rest] and shouldn't have to follow the rules. One doesn't take a child to kindergarten and tell the teacher that you realize that there are rules but my child and I shouldn't have to abide by them. I've been teaching DanceSport to hundreds of kids at a time of all ages for many years and I know at what age one can count on them every week and at what ages one might not. Consequently I don't intend to gamble that one person's child will perform better than other's at the expense of everyone else in the class. If it is such an inconvenience for parents to take advantage of this opportunity to learn with their children then I suggest waiting until they're 8, which is a shame to waste that much time to delay their training and enjoyment of dance).

Enrollment is $85. for full-time students, including college students with full-time ID, and $95. for non-student parents or guardians who also must be trained right along with the child if they're going to practice with them each week at home. All class cards may also be used for any combination of classes offered at http://www.PleaseDanceWithMe.com any day of the week in any offered dance style.

Teachers and educators who may be interested in starting a "Red Hot Ballroom" program in their schools are also encouraged to attend to learn the dances and technique for children's classes in Ballroom, Swing and Latin.
The younger children with parents and new students should come at 10am to get a head start. We'll have a warm-up before the class actually begins in exercises or learning line dances such as the Michael Jackson's Thriller dance routine or more (an new line dance will be the choreography from the chorus of Michael Jackson's 'Beat It'). Be aware that the younger ones may not last all the way through the 10:30am-11:30am class for those who are older.
