About The Vancouver Dance Network

Welcome to the Vancouver Dance Network

The Vancouver Dance Network is a Meetup group looking to be a networking resource for dancers of all levels and styles in Vancouver (Canada) to dance together, exchange information and make friends. We aim to meet often around the city and outlying areas. Through our get-togehters and correspondence via Meetup, we help each other learn more about our respective interests in dance... Dance as an art form, a leisure activity, a cultural experience, and the historical signficances. And we have fun doing it!

Our membership ranges from professionals, through the full range of semi-pro, serious amateur, avid and beginning students to those with a casual interest and a feel for dance and music. We welcome performers, musicians, artists, choreographers, dance lovers, spectators, cultural experts and historians to join us as members, and help form the group.

Everyone is welcome!

Guiding Principles

Membership & Participation

Anyone may join the group, and there are no minimum dance level requirements. In fact, membership is not limited to dancers but may include anyone interested in dance. All are welcome to become part of our group. The basic requirements are a keen desire to have fun, meet friends, learn about dance, and share with others what you know and learn.

There are no requirements for remaining active. A member may be removed from the group for inactivity if the Meetup.com site purges the member's account based on an inactive email address (which they do from time to time).

Group Fees

There are no fees for membership.

The organizer is responsible for any fees for the group to Meetup.com. Other costs as they arise are also the responsibility of the organizer. A small event fee may be collected from members attending events to contribute to the costs associated with the group. Members will be made aware of any fees in advance. All group-related monies collected will be used to benefit the group, at the discretion of the organizer, who may (from time to time) share the balance sheet and engage the group for input on spending.

Respect

The foundation of this group is respect for each other, respect for each others' personal privacy, and the fostering of respect for all things in general.

Meetup Events

This group is a Network, and as such will not have general meetings to discuss the group itself.

A key element of the Vancouver Dance Network is the array of fun Events we come up with for the group. Meetups will generally be put on by a group member, assistant or organizer who will lead the event, commit to be at the event at a specified time, meet and greet members and generally look out for the welfare and happiness of the group attending. Meetup events can be just about anything (e.g., community dance, visit to a club, attend a show) as long as the Member who is inviting others along (i.e., posts the Meetup Event to the Group) is going to attend the event, and is willing to lead it.

Members who want to lead a Meetup Event are encouraged to do so at any time by contacting the Organizer or Assistant Organizers of the Group, to make arrangements to set up the Event.

Assistant Organizers

Any member is eligible to become and remain an assistant organizer at the discretion of the organizer.

The critieria for becoming an assistant organizer is as follows:

  • A desire to lead Meetup Events - including dances, performances and classes which align with the intention of the group
  • Communicates and clears Event ideas and dates with the group's organizer prior to posting
  • Commits to a date and itinerary for their chosen event and follows through as planned
  • Manages communication with and generally cares about the well being of members who RSVP -- before, during and after the event
  • Uses the group's tools appropriately for communication around events as set out with the assistant by the group's organizer

The criteria for remaining as an assistant organizer for the group is as follows:

  • Continues to lead events using same criteria above
  • Leads events for the group at least once every four months -- assistant organizers who do not lead events within a period of four months will be asked to step down (but are eligible to become an assistant organizer again at any time in the future should they meet the above criteria)
  • Perform or manage non-Event based tasks, if specifically arranged with the organizer

Message Boards & Commercial Advertising

Use of the group message boards for personal exploitation, or commercial advertising (whether by the operator of an organization, or by others on behalf of an organization) is discouraged and is subject to deletion by the organizer. Anyone wishing to advertise a business is welcome to contact the organizer to discuss benefits and the best method of communicating it to the group.

Members are free to announce events in the community to the message boards for the benefit of the group.
