 Harmonically rich and rhythmically compelling\, the compositions of Gyan Ri
 ley reveal both instrumental virtuosity and a breadth of imagination and de
 pth of spirit that are\, frankly\, awesome. His original pieces mingle infl
 uences of jazz and Indian classical music with classical and Spanish tradit
 ions\, all colored by his passionate\, intricate guitar work. Tonight's sho
 w focuses on selections from Gyan's new CD\, Melismantra\, with guest artis
 ts Tracy Silverman on violin and Scott Amendola on drums.\n\nA rising figur
 e of guitar and contemporary music\, both as a performer and composer\, Gya
 n was the first guitarist ever to be awarded a full scholarship from the Sa
 n Francisco Conservatory of Music\, in 1999. He tours regularly with the Lo
 s Angeles based Falla Guitar Trio\, the Feinsmith Quartet\, and with his fa
