It's hard to believe that i n less than a year we have attracted 175 people to this meetup. Some of yo u I have met. Many of you have never come to any of our events even though you've been on our list for many months. \n\nIn that regard we are introd ucing a new policy regarding membership. From now on if you don't attend a t least one of three consecutive meetups then you will be removed from the list. This is to ensure that those who say they are members\, truly are. It will give us all a better sense of each other and it will give me\, as o rganizer\, a better idea of how many to expect at each event\, what size da nce floor we will need and what your preferences are in terms of time\, pla ce and type of music.\n\nSome time ago I posted a poll on the website enqui ring whether you prefer a dance meetup on a weeknight in a local bar reserv ed just for us for a few hours (cost $5) or a Saturday night dance event (i n a centrally-located hall with our own D.J. and cash bar from 9 p.m. until 2 a.m. (cost $15). So far only 6 people have responded to that poll and s o I still don’t have a good idea of your wishes. Could you all please take a moment and respond to this poll (clearly marked “Polls” on the list of p ages on the left side of the screen)? It will only take a second to check off your preference and will facilitate my task tremendously. \n\nAnd now to announce our first dance of the season. It will be held on Saturday\, N ovember 1st at 4170 rue St. Urbain (corner of Rachel) beginning at 9p.m. O ur D.J.\, miracle mART\, (a.k.a. Martin Seguin) will be back spinning disks for us and since it’s the Halloween weekend you have the choice of coming in costume or not. For sure\, some people will be dressing up\, but it is by no means mandatory and we prefer that you come and dance “sans costume” rather than not come at all. This will be a wonderful opportunity to get t o know one another and to kick off what will no doubt become a wonderful ye ar of dancing with the Montreal Social Dance Meetup. \n\nFor the Saturday n ight meetups I am asking that you purchase your tickets in advance to ensur e that we cover all our costs of organizing the event (hall and sound equip ment rental\, D.J.\, etc.) While a cash bar will be available\, we have not hing to do with it and the only money we make is what we collect in door sa les. Once you R.S.V.P. that you will be attending\, I will write you perso nally with instructions on how to purchase your tickets in advance. \n\nAt tending this first dance of the season will be a great opportunity for you to give me your feedback in person and to let me know the sorts of events t hat you would like me to plan in the future.
