Performing this month at Alwan are the legendary Middle Eastern dancers SHOSHANA and JEHAN, and the incredible Egyptian hip-hop dance duo MOHAMMED AND SAMEH, straight outta Cairo, presenting Saidi and Alexandrian (Bamboutiya) folklore, and of course their dynamic brand of hip-hop!

"Dance at Alwan" is a new monthly showcase of traditional and experimental Middle Eastern dance, featuring some of New York's premier artists, in the intimate venue of Alwan Arab-Iranian cultural center (series curated by Ranya).
The show will be about 1.5 hours, followed by a DJ dance party, with DJ TBA (Taoufiq Ben Amor) spinning the hottest Arab and North African dance pop you can imagine!
Drinks can be purchased if you wish, but it's casual. :-) Reservations not necessary, but please arrive early (anytime after 8:30pm) to guarantee a good seat; we completely filled the place last time and used all the chairs!

RANYA (series curator), one of New York's leading Arabic dance artists, has performed in theater, dance and music for almost thirty years. Having trained in Arabic music and language for many years, Ranya works to raise awareness and appreciation of Arab culture in her regular dance classes and seminars.
